Recovery from Cosmetic Reconstructive Surgery

Within 1 to 2 hours after the surgery, the patient will be released from the office. This surgical procedure is done out-patient, which means you get to recover in the comfort of your own bed (or hotel room for our traveling patients). Prior to surgery, Dr. Smith’s Staff will provide the patient with detailed post-operative instructions, which need to be followed carefully to help ensure a successful recovery. Most patients experience mild discomfort following all cosmetic reconstructive surgeries, for which you will be prescribed pain medication to help control any discomfort. Our patient’s typically only, need to take this for the first 3 to 4 days after their procedure. Dr. Smith might also prescribe antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection after your surgery. Dr. Smith prefers that patients take at least 5 to 7 days off of work to optimize recovery. Within this time, it is important to rest. Patients will be instructed to take at least 4 weeks off from the gym and any other strenuous activity, and they will be instructed to refrain from engaging in solo or accompanied sexual activities, as well as tampon use, for at least 6 weeks following surgery.
